We are celebrating our 70th Anniversary at St. Andrew’s
This anniversary commemorates the opening of the buildings which were dedicated in dark times just days after the outbreak of the 2nd World War. The founders certainly had great vision, determination, hope and faith.
When wondering how we could sum up our Anniversary, we felt it was so well crystallised in the poem below, for which we have to thank Millie Rhymer. She wrote it for our Service of Celebration on 29th November 2009.
What a Celebration!
What a celebration!
What a happy day,
Gathered here together
To laugh, to talk, to pray.
Through all the seven decades
St. Andrew’s has stood fast,
Sheltering the pilgrims
On life’s journey to the last.
Thus it stands a beacon,
The portals opened wide,
In welcome to the faithful
To share the peace inside.
Please keep visiting this page throughout this year as we aim to add new information periodically, including various pictures of the Church and its congregations over the years, views and memories
from those who have been part of St. Andrew’s story over the last 70 years, and anything else of relevance we discover - to build a virtual history of St. Andrew’s. its legacy and its future direction. Please email us anything you think should be included.
